At a time of coronavirus, when most companies are anxiously monitoring the drop in traffic every day and sending their employees on hold, and people at home are losing patience with their children and partners, online sales of erotic toys are rising sharply. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, people brought home bags full of masks and disinfectants from pharmacies. Then we switched to grocery stores and threw significant amounts of everything into carts, from six packets of toilet paper, shampoos, soaps, pads, various alcoholic beverages to rye flour, white flour, and yeast. It seemed like this would be the only way we could survive the pandemic. The first week we got busy playing rummy or Catan, solving crossword puzzles, and watching series. But at least we were also able to have sex, even inter-municipal (our regions and municipalities' borders were later closed). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the precocious measures began to intensify, we became doomed to our family's company or ourselves. For those who don't live with partners, the grueling hours without naked Saturdays have begun. Scientists have noticed two trends. In some people, sex and bedtime adventure desire increased, while others utterly lost their sex drive. These people shut the doors of their world and forgot about sex, while others saw a solution - buying in erotic online stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

World-renowned brands such as Womanizer<\/a>, and We-Vibe<\/a> reported a 40% of increase in sales. People mostly bought products for masturbation, disinfectants, and UV sterilizers. Some sellers of erotic toys have noticed that people have panicked and started buying more immense amounts of erotics toys: five vibrators, six disinfectants, and so on. You never know when you will run out of sex toys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK were the biggest spenders. On March 11, when the World Health Organization declared a pandemic, sales of erotic toys tripled. In those countries, erotic toys for beginners, condoms, and menstrual cups were on the rise. Practically the same data was recorded by online stores in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The erotic shop Sinful<\/a> shipped 1,500 packages a day. Interestingly, they saw an increase in sales of erotic games or challenges and toys for couples.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about Slovenians?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I spoke to the online store Svet u\u017eitka<\/a>. When our government declared quarantine, sales fell sharply. People simply shut themselves off, stressfully clinging to what they have in anticipation of the worst (we are obviously a bunch of weirdoes, don't judge). As life shifted from stressful to dull, people tried to find something new, something exciting, something pleasurable, something like sex toys. Svet u\u017eitka<\/a> has thus recorded a 20% traffic increase in its online store. A certain percentage of sales are likely to be attributed to the closure of physical stores.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like before the declared pandemic, vibrators were number one in sales, followed by couples' toys. But the winners of this corona crisis were definitely hand disinfectants. Many were waiting in line for a product that was not at all interesting before the epidemic. People were so terrified of the new virus's attack that we even started looking for disinfectants in erotic shops, while there was a chronic shortage of them in pharmacies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As in other shops, also in erotic ones paying with cash has been replaced by card payment. Could it be any easier? You choose the product, insert card data, and wait patiently for the postman to bring you the package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coronavirus is testing us, our limits of patience, our resourcefulness, our wastefulness. At the same time, it allows us to rediscover ourselves and the people we live with. I want Slovenians to get even more acquainted with erotic toys and maybe leave yeast and flour somewhere in a dark, hidden corner of the kitchen for a day. I would rather see them leaving their comfort zone and try something new. What else are the pandemics good for? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
